Tomato Halves Au Gratin Recipe

For a simple version of this recipe, sprinkle tomato halves with Butter Crumb Topping (right), and microwave as directed below.

Ingredients:

Tomatoes
For each tomato half
1/2 teaspoon instant minced onion
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sweet basil
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
1 tablespoon crushed potato or corn chips
1 tablespoon shredded cheddar cheese

Preparation Method:

Wash and halve tomatoes. Arrange in dish suggested below, or in microwave ovenproof pottery plate of suitable size.

Sprinkle each tomato half with seasonings. Microwave at High according to times below. Time may vary due to size and variety of tomato.

Tomato Pepper Quickie Recipe

Ingredients:

2 medium green peppers, cut into chunks
1 medium onion
1/2 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons water
2 medium ripe tomatoes or 1 can (1-lb.) tomato wedges, drained

Preparation Method:

In 1-qt. casserole place green pepper. Cut onion into 1/4-in. slices, separate into rings and lay on top of green pepper. Sprinkle on seasonings. Add water. Cover. Microwave at High 6 Minutes, stirring after 3 minutes.

Cut tomatoes into 3/4-in wedges and arrange over casserole. Cover. Microwave at High 2 to 3 Minutes more, until tomatoes are just heated. Makes 4 servings.
